HEATING UP

Spicy opinions on things we care about for reasons

one / Animaker Spills Data

Good guy Sen has had a busy week. The security researcher who discovered the USSOCOM leak, uncovered a video marketing app that exposed 700,000 (and counting) users’ personal information. We’ve never heard of the company, but the type of data exposed is just what’s needed for SIM-swapping. Which brings us to…

two / Krebs Reports on T-Mobile

T-Mobile refuses to take responsibility for anything. When confronted with evidence by Krebs with clear evidence of SIM-swapping, that’s still going on by the way, T-Mobile points to an industry wide problem. Hey T-Mobile, just because you can buy your way out of just about anything, doesn’t mean you’re not responsible. Do better.

DUMPSTER FIRE

Eyebrow raising breaches that you already know about, but with our 🌶️ added

We should rename this section T-Mobile.

LEVEL UP

We give advice and you earn experience points.

I spent some time over the last few days helping kids in r\cybersecurity on Reddit. I’m for sure they were kids, but when you’re a kid you ask certain types of questions that adults don’t - like, ”What cert should I get?” or worrying about the CISSP while still in school.

You can feel the how fed up the long timers are, but I’m not there yet. Everyone needs a hand now and then, so I contribute.

one / Public vs. Private Sector

A college student wondered if it was better to work for a corporation, or the government from a money perspective. It gives me hope for the future to hear that, and it was something that I didn’t think about until now. I coached the Redditor to think more about what they want vs. what they pay is. Do they value travel and what their thoughts were on seniority. The original with context is here.

two / Are Certs Really Worth It?

We posted a condensed Twitter thread about whether or not a SANS or CISSP was really worth it. Spoiler alert, they are, but not for just the reason of having the piece of paper. The original with context is here.
